Motorcycle Applications

Rod Ends for Linkage Applications

Rod ends serve as articulated connection points in motorcycle control systems. Tell us which application you’re working on, and we’ll help confirm the right configuration.

Shift Linkage

Connects the shift lever to the transmission selector, commonly using right-hand/left-hand threaded pairs for length adjustment.

Rearset Linkage

Used in rearset shift and brake linkages across sportbike, naked and other platforms as an articulated connection point.

Brake Linkage

Enables adjustable brake lever or pedal position through a threaded, articulated connection.

Custom Linkage

Custom control linkages for aftermarket builds, private-label programs, and non-standard configurations.

Manufacturing Capability

Wide Size & Configuration Capability

From compact motorcycle linkage applications to larger custom assemblies, we manufacture rod ends across a wide range of sizes and configurations — not limited to a handful of standard catalog sizes. If your application calls for a size, thread, or configuration outside the ordinary, send us the drawing or sample and we’ll confirm feasibility.

How to Specify a Rod End

Choosing the Right Configuration

Motorcycle rod ends are not one-size-fits-all. The details below are what we confirm before quoting — you don’t need to know all of them upfront.

Thread Size & Standard

Both metric (M5–M30) and inch (UNC/UNF) thread standards are used in motorcycle applications — we manufacture to either, matched to your linkage.

Right-Hand vs Left-Hand Thread

Adjustable linkages commonly use one right-hand and one left-hand threaded rod end, so the linkage length can be adjusted by rotating the rod without disconnecting either end. We manufacture both thread directions.

Male vs Female

Rod end bodies are available with either external (male) or internal (female) threads, depending on your linkage design.

Bore & Ball Diameter

6mm–50mm ball diameter, matched to the load and articulation requirements of your application.

Center-to-Center Length

Manufactured to your specified length or reference part — this dimension is specific to your linkage geometry, not a fixed catalog size.

Fitment, Adjustment & Installation

Getting the Fit Right

Linkage Alignment

A rod end needs to articulate freely once installed. If both ends of a linkage aren’t properly aligned, the joint can bind — which is a common cause of stiff shifting after a rearset or linkage change.

Clearance

Rod end head geometry and profile affect clearance against surrounding components. A lower-profile design can resolve clearance issues in tighter installations.

Adjustment

Right-hand/left-hand threaded pairs allow fine adjustment of linkage length — useful for dialing in lever position or shift feel without changing the entire linkage.

Application-Specific Fitment

Rod ends are not universally interchangeable across motorcycles. Tell us your application and linkage dimensions, and we’ll confirm the correct configuration — we don’t rely on a generic “fits most” spec.

Materials & Construction

Body and Bearing, Matched to Application

A rod end has two distinct material zones — the body and the ball/race — each selected for a different function.

Chromoly Steel

Body — high-strength structure for load-bearing linkage applications

Stainless Steel

Body — corrosion resistance for exposed linkage components

Titanium

Body — high-strength, lightweight for weight-sensitive applications

Carbon Steel

Body — general structural applications

52100 / 440C / 17-4PH

Ball & race — high-load joint, wear surface for the articulating bearing interface
